Waris Ahmad Faizi - Class of 2024. Waris Ahmad Faizi, a 2024 graduate of the Sociology Department, is currently a second-year PhD student in Sociology at Virginia Tech. His research interests include economic sociology, digital sociology, computational social science, and international development. He is also an Erasmus+ and DAAD scholar, reflecting his strong engagement with international academic opportunities. Waris鈥檚 academic journey demonstrates the strong foundation that a degree in Sociology can provide for advanced research and an international academic career.

Zulaika Ubysheva - Class of 2018. Zulaika Ubysheva, a 2018 graduate of the Sociology Department, has built an international career in fraud analysis and risk management. She currently works as a Fraud Analyst at Expedia and is based in Prague, Czech Republic. Her career demonstrates how a background in Sociology can provide valuable analytical and research skills applicable to data analysis, fraud prevention, risk management, and the international business sector. We are proud to see Zulaika applying the skills gained through Sociology to a successful international career.

Reina Arturova - Class of 2011. Reina Arturova, a 2011 graduate of the Sociology Department, has built a distinguished academic and advocacy career at the intersection of gender studies, civil society, and Central Asian politics. She is currently a researcher at the Institute of Sociology at Otto-von-Guericke 蜜桃直播 Magdeburg, Germany, where she pursues her scholarly work in affiliation with the 蜜桃直播. Her research focuses on women's civil activism in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, examined through a postcolonial lens. Beyond academia, Reina has contributed to policy work as a co-author of the Country Gender Equality Profile of the Kyrgyz Republic, produced in partnership with UN Women. She is also recognized as a prominent feminist voice and public commentator on political and social issues in Kyrgyzstan. Reina's career powerfully illustrates how a Sociology degree can serve as a foundation for impactful research, international collaboration, and meaningful civic engagement.
